Walk or Nap

Some days feel like Christmas Day. And not in a jolly way.

Christmas Day can be a bit much for me to be honest. A gargantuan carb-laden lunch leaves me at a critically exhausted tipping point where there are really only two choices when it comes to energy replenishment:

  • Go for a walk.
  • Take a nap.

I can go either way.

Even in May (which research indicates is the most stressful month for Teachers and School Leaders as NAPLAN, report writing and the descension of the colder months on the southern side of the country combine) we can reach that Christmas Day style point of exhaustion.

What happens next requires listening to your body, your mind and your heart. Do you need to move or do you need to rest?

I don’t really mind what you do … just don’t keep eating. Continuing to plough-on through the conditions that exhausted you isn’t going to rejuvenate you.

And you matter. A lot.

Keep fighting that good fight,

PS. Amy Green has taught me an outrageous amount in the Teacher Wellbeing space since she joined Real Schools. She’s running a kick-arse one-day opportunity called Leading School & Teacher Wellbeing in Melbourne (May 26th), Sydney (June 4th) and Brisbane (June 16th) and you’d be doing yourself, and your staff, a favour by being there.
