Starting Small.

Our Real Schools mission to raise Teacher status is on.  And my commitment is to do it as comfortably and appropriately for early January as possible!

I’ve just finished a coffee on my favourite outside couch and a fantastic little book called “88 Ideas to Teach More Effectively” by Tim Bowman.  It’s a ripper.

One of Bowman’s ideas is to think about what our students really need to know as they embark on their lives and beyond our influence.  He suggests there are three:

  1. Empathy – understanding, caring for and being more tolerant of others.
  2. Self discipline – learning to be accountable to avoid the “easy path”.
  3. The process of effort, learning and achievement – getting comfortable with not knowing and accepting challenges.

January is a fantastic time to absorb the educative world outside our own schools.  What are you reading, absorbing, thinking about and planning to change or tweak in 2017?

My advice – do it with a really good coffee too!
