What is RP2.0?
Restorative practices aren’t new. You might have heard about them, tried them, seen a card with a set of questions or participated in a conference of some description. Let’s call that version Restorative Practices 1.0, shall we?
And the truth is, RP1.0 is useful – it’s grounded in outstanding research… and it works. But, it hasn’t always been implemented particularly well. RP1.0 has been hallmarked by formal actions for teachers – which costs them time they don’t have.
CEO and Founder of Real Schools, Adam Voigt’s innovative methodology, which he calls ‘Restorative Practices 2.0’ has the same rigorous foundation in Social Psychology and Affect Theory, but with a promise that the implementation will be easier and simpler.
RP2.0 shifts the focus from the formalities to small adjustments, habits and tactics that have a huge impact.
But mostly, RP2.0 is about culture.
Because we know that when we get the culture of a school right – everything else gets better.
Student engagement, teacher burnout, leadership buy in, community trust – it all improves when we build a school culture that is strong, relational, and built on mutual trust.
RP2.0 is built around three key components
Language
Because what we say matters
Conduct
Because what we do matters
Mindset
Because how we think matters
Low investment. High return.
Implementing RP2.0 is not just another job to be done or program to be rolled out.
RP2.0 is about low investment, high return changes that everyone can make.
Changes that will have a huge impact on your school’s culture. On your students. On your school community. And on your colleagues. But most of all on you and your ability to elevate your practice.
Restoring a teacher isn’t an act of criticism; it’s an investment in that teachers’ worth.
Restoring a school is an act of love. It’s a demonstration that these critical institutions, trusted with the honour of building children into citizens, are worth the trouble of working on.
And restoring faith in the entire teaching profession is not only the right thing to do – it’s long overdue.
