I have five non-content based learning intentions for each Professional Learning day that I run. One of them is to Provoke, mindful as I am of the affirming and unnecessarily nice nature of much PL offered to schools. We should not be in the business of learning that merely affirms or reinforces unhelpful patterns.
And don’t worry, I’m willing to be provoked too. It’s why I found the below clip a bit confronting at first.
I was angry through the first couple of minutes, but the longer I watched, the more I realised this is not criticism of schools or Teachers. It’s a call to action about living our educative purpose, to do what we know matters.
I was sufficiently provoked by this clip to start work on our Real Schools mission in 2017 – more to come on that, but it’s fair to assume that it’ll be about improving the status of Teachers across our entire country. We like aiming high at Real Schools!
So, who has the greatest scope to improve Teacher status? Is it government? Is it your CEO? No – it’s all of us working in and on our schools, because we can change the small behaviours and actions repeated daily. One tiny commitment we make is to never write the word “teacher” in 2017 – from now on it’s “Teacher” … with a capital T.
This job matters and it’s time we acted like it does.
Are you sufficiently provoked enough to change something, however small, too?
Free WEBINAR – The Stress Free School
Teacher performance is at the core of every school’s and system’s improvement agenda. And when we look at alarming statistics telling us that 30-50% of our teachers are leaving the profession within 5 years of commencing their careers – it’s clearly time that we looked at why?
- Student Behaviour
- Workload
- Issues with Parents
But more important than just knowing these issues (after all – you can know them just by reading this summary!) this webinar is all about ROI – Return On Investment. We want you to have at your disposable the simple and practical tactics you can deploy in each of these spaces that provide the best “bang for your buck” in terms of time, effort and resource.
This webinar is about School Culture – and creating one in 2017 that gives your staff, your students, your community and your programs the chance to flourish.
The Stress Free School is NOT a whimsical and idealistic pipedream. The investment of one hour of your time this January is all you need do to make inroads on this appealing reality. As Gough Whitlam said “It’s time”.
This Real Schools Webinar is aimed at School Leaders, Administrators and Teachers of all phases of learning.
